Dear Parents / Caregivers, Thank you for all your support during term 1. I had a fantastic term working with your children.Here is a brief outline of term 2. ·Inquiry is based on recycling, Is Rubbish a Waste?In week 2 Alan Dunn from the recycling centre is coming to talk to us. As part of the recycling unit the whole school will have a wearable arts day. The children will make their wearable art outfit as part of their home work. ·English focus follows along with the recycling theme. Report writing is the genre. We will also work on a variety of mind / thinking maps. The use of ICT skills will become a focus as soon as the computer suite opens. ( As part of this I have started studying myself this year doing a post grad in ICT in Education, this will support me teaching your children, as I amand will be teaching them the skills thatam learning.) ·Maths focus is Number this term and Mrs Hood will be teaching statistics on Fridays. ·For sport we will practice for x-country each morning. On Thursday afternoons the leaders in Rm 1 will take the rest of the school for Kiwidex games. Richard from Sport Waikato is supporting us with this. Mrs Hood will be taking netball and basketball skills on Fridays. ·Maori focus will continue to be learning our Mihi.Maori is used incidentally in class throughout the day. For Art we will focus on Maori Art. ·HOMEWORK – is given out on Monday and returned 10 days later. It essential that your child complete their work to a high standard, do support them if they ask for help but it is their responsibility. They have plenty of opportunity to bring it back and ask me questions if they need to. Often homework is something we are continuing in class so it is important that what is required to be done at home is. Do remember homework is there to promote study skills and independence which will stand your children in good stead at high school ·Home Book is to be signed each day and be brought back to school daily. Please write in it.
